Chicago Gangs

 The original cause for the Disciples and Black stone Ranger was to defend the black area against irish and german gangs. These gangs had high standards were respectful of their elders and promoted black political empowerment. The sponsored neighborhood picnics, various youth sports teams and other activities, however many black politicians along with then mayor daley considered them to be a threat to their powerbase and took every chance to vilify and attack them they accused them of being communist influenced and blamed them at every turn for every thing wrong in the black community. After the murder of several Black Panthers in the city of Chicago these younger groups became less and less willing to continue the straight path and more willing to consider money as the best weapon to use and wanted to use any means available to get that money as older leaders were killed and jailed incommunicado the next gen had no guidance and role models and began to do the very thing the original members fought against. Remember the Disciples and the Rangers were started by youth with a minister run board of directors and did so much to help the community they received grants from the federal government’s urban renewal project. 
Despite the bad press and evil acts started but latter generations the original groups started many things that Churches and other religious/social agency have taken over as if they invented them. Among these activities are
Food basket programs, after school tutoring programs, pregnancy prevention, school supply at the start of school and midterm, and voter registration drives.
